Why Does Everyone Want To Be Distracted?

The idea for this post came to me the moment I stepped onto the elliptical machine at the gym this morning.

At the 24 Hour Fitness that I go to, most of the cardio machines have little TVs attached to them.

And most of the people that use these machines, keep the TV on while they're working out... As if they have no other choice to watch whatever meaningless crap that happens to be streaming on the screen. I used to be the same way.

But not anymore.

I realized one day that I could be a lot more productive with myself if I simply shut down the screen and opt into:

  • (a) listening to an audiobook, a podcast, or some music that I like; or
  • (b) thinking about my life/day/week/goals.

Here’s my suggestion to you (take it for what it's worth): why not turn that shit off and do the same thing?

Better to be in control of what you put into your brain vs. let someone else control your brain for you.
