You might not think so, but your parking lot is significantly more important to your customers than you might think. While it seems like a peripheral part of your business, it’s actually quite central.
The reason for this is essentially convenience. Customers love it when they can just rock up in their vehicles, buy what they need, and then go home. It’s so convenient.
But what should you look out for? What do they want to see you doing?
Let’s take a look.
Cramped Parking Spaces
Vehicles have been getting bigger over time, so if your space size is the same as it was in the 1970s, that’s a problem. Trying to fit into these narrow bays is stressful for a lot of customers, and something they’d change if they could.
Again, it sounds like a small thing, but it’s not really. Even if it only puts off 10% of people, that’s still a lot of lost business.
Therefore, find ways to make spaces less cramped. Spread them out a bit if you can.
Maze Layout
You also want to get rid of the maze layout if you have one. Again, customers should be able to retrace their steps with ease and find their vehicles without constantly walking around.
Most importantly, it should be clear how to enter and exit the parking lot. Cars can sometimes get lost on the way in and out.
Poor Lighting
If you have poor lighting at your parking lot, you’ll want to fix that, too. If customers can’t see where they’re going at night, that’s a problem.
Therefore, check that all the existing lamps are working. Then ask if you can add some smart solutions, like lights built into each bay.
Potholes
You also want to be vigilant of potholes and cracked paving. Customers don’t like this because it requires them to have their wits about them when driving instead of just focusing on shopping.
Fortunately, you can find a whole bunch of concrete repair specialists in most cities these days. These can quickly resolve issues and return your parking lot areas too looking their absolute best. Usually, you don’t need to resurface the entire frontage.
Poor Peak Flow Times
Another issue that crops up regularly is the poor flow when things get busy. A lot of commercial parking lots get snarled up, and, again, this can be a source of stress for a lot of customers.
You can usually fix this problem with in-out lanes and traffic directions. However, you are still somewhat dependent on the surrounding roads, which you won’t have as much control over.
Sparse And Faded Signage
Finally, you can get into trouble with your parking lot if the signage is sparse or faded. People need to be able to figure out where they need to go to navigate the parking lot properly. The wrong signage can interrupt this process.
So there you have it: some of the things your customers would like to see corrected about your existing parking lot.
