What Physical Health Factors Affect Confidence The Most?

Collaborative Post

Physical health feeds into confidence like nothing else in the world. For all you may get compliments, encourage healthy inner talk, and let go of things you used to believe about the way you looked, you still need to feel comfortable and secure in your own body.

That’s where confidence tends to really come from. But what physical health factors tend to affect confidence the most? Let’s explore the possibilities in a bit more detail down below.

The Connection Between Physical and Mental Health

Physical health isn’t just its own thing. It’s tied into your mental health in a very complex way, and vice versa. The most interesting thing about this connection is how it can work differently for every single person in the world.

Physical factors like height and weight may cause person A to feel self-conscious and insecure, whereas person B draws their strength and confidence from them. Person C may barely even think about them at all.

Everybody is different, and everybody has a different way of perceiving and valuing physical factors.

But whether or not they actually impact on a person’s mental wellbeing, when it comes to confidence, the fact remains that the same physical factors tend to crop up time and time again.

Common Physical Health Factors That Affect Confidence

Speaking of, the physical health elements that affect confidence tend to land in the same places.

As such, here’s a couple of common contenders that can cause someone to feel either more and less confident about themselves:

Teeth, gums, and smile

People smile more times throughout the day than they realize. It’s a very common reaction to all kinds of things, whether you’re genuinely happy, laughing, feeling a bit stressed, or are smiling because your job requires you to.

And because of that, the way our teeth and gums look can have a massive impact on how confident we really feel.

Crowded or crooked teeth aren’t just a physical health issue; many people will visit an orthodontist to find out the clear aligners cost simply because someone else may see their teeth.

That’s also why teeth whitening is so popular, despite yellow or off-color teeth being just as healthy.

Body shape and size

We touched on height and weight above, but there are so many different traits that exist within these categories that can affect how confident a person feels.

Body shape is one such trait. You can get two people who weigh exactly the same, and are just as tall as one another, and they’ll have two totally different body shapes.

So much so that you might not think they have these physical factors in common.

Physical health ties into mental health in more ways than one.

And one of those ways comes down to how confident we feel and/or are willing to be. It’s important to understand what has the chance to affect your confidence in particular, so you know how to address any insecurities that may arise.
