Collaborative Post
When you have a team you can rely on, you feel on top of the world. After all, it’s proof you’re the kind of business leader who can spot talent and push it together. You know what works, you know how to get the right kind of people mingling, and you’ve been able to craft a killer team for the business goals you’ve always dreamed of achieving.
But this isn’t just an innate talent, unknown to the majority of small business owners. It’s something you can learn, cultivate, and sharpen as your time in business goes on. Indeed, if you want to be the kind of business leader who can pull in a team that knows what to do, you’ll want to try out the ideas below within your organization.
Demonstrate the Right Kind of Communication
The best kind of leaders lead by example, right? So when it comes to setting an example over communication amongst the team, be the person they can emulate.
Always be the first person to get in touch. Always be the first person to outline what’s going on in the day. Always be the first person to reach out with a question, and make sure you comment on the fact that anyone can put forward their thoughts and concerns.
If you do it, encourage it in the people you lead. That’s how you get your team talking to each other in a way that feels open, direct, and professional.
Run Inclusive Training Courses
The more inclusive a business is, the better the talent they're going to attract. After all, not a single person wants to work in a business that doesn’t put inclusion and equality first.
No one really wants to work with the understanding that anything they do may be written off, unrecognised, or made harder for them simply because no one really can be bothered.
So, run training courses that focus on inclusivity. Some disability inclusion training makes it far easier for your team to work together in a way that values every member of the group.
And when you make it clear that you’re an ‘equal opportunity’ employer, you’ll have a whole new group of candidates to work through when you put out a job posting.
Value Your Team as Humans First
It might sound like a crazy statement, but a lot of small business owners can forget this along the way. They’re too wrapped in how the business is doing, or how an employee’s absence might affect short term success.
But your team are people first and your employees second. You should value that in a way that shows your team members that you care about their wellbeing.
Make sure they can take time off. Make sure you avoid contacting them outside of working hours. Make sure you prioritize recovery when they’re ill.
When building a team, be the best leader you can be. It’ll add up to an engaged and productive team you can rely on.
